Philco/IBM translation at problem-oriented, symbolic and binary levels
Thomas M. Olsen · Communications of the ACM · 1965
A translation system has been developed to eliminate most of the effort formerly required to reprogram Philco 2000 series codes for IBM 7094 operation.Experience with this system is limited but highly successful--encouraging application of the techniques to other source and object languages.l.I n t r o d u c t i o n For our' area of computer application, nu('le~tr engineering, the l)hilco TUG Library provides many desirable codes which have no eounteri)art on the IBM 7094.This was sufticient reason lo develop a method of reprogram-Ilni/,g these for ()tit' IBM equipment.The general conversion task is al)p~rent from considering the typical examples of Philco problem-oriented (Am'Re) and symbolic (TAC) language in Figure 1.ALTAC,, SURa0UTINE SAMPLE (~)RIE~) EXAMPL E F0# ALTAC-TO-;OI~TCaAN-I( CONVEEg~ION, % -I ~' ~' i -N 7 ; " r y r q c ~E ~-2 ~j h ' -~' ~a ~ ~' ~" ' ~5 ~G ~i Z E ~" ~ "~ DATA ~4EAD 1 c , I , , 1 , ~. ~, ~* c $ . . . . . . . . . .P ~I ~.
