Digital forensics analysts are being pushed beyond their current capabilities by the need to analyze increasingly larger storage devices (multiple terabytes) and RAID storage systems. To handle these emerging challenges, forensic analysis will soon need to leverage parallel and distributed computing. The digital forensics investigation process, from imaging to analysis, presents unique challenges in the context of RAID storage systems, where reconstruction becomes a substantial concern. In this article, we report issues related to parallel imaging, reconstruction, and analysis of RAID systems as a foundation for parallel digital forensics.
