Discussion of statement labels

Karl L. Pentzlin · ACM SIGPLAN Notices · 1983

The author argues that statement labels should only be used to name statements for documentation purposes. For other applications that are common now, like definitions of GOTO destinations and test point declarations, language definitions should provide other constructs.Especially, a TRANSFER/JUNCTION construct is proposed that - although semantically equivalent - is considered to be something less harmful than the GOTO construct.
