GP Tools Available on the Web: A First Encounter

The MIT Press eBooks · 1996

A number of genetic programming (GP) tools available on the Web were reviewed to assess the viability of GP freeware and to propose preliminary evaluation criteria for GP tools. Two of the example applications, symbolic regression and the Santa Fe ant, were compared across most of the tools. Three umbrella evaluation criteria were proposed: basic mechanics, additional features, operational issues. Modular design permits the basic GP tools to be applied generally. Factors such as run-seeding can influence the choice of tool. Operational issues are sensitive only to requirements for large memory and high speed. The available tools represent good quality working models and the Internet is increasingly becoming a key distribution medium for the tools.
