Programming support for the NASA space station data management system (abstract only)
Rodney L. Bown, Charles W. McKay · 1985
The Data Management System (DMS) for the NASA space station will incorporate multiple computers, data bases, and applications in a large complex network. The DMS must manage different computers that are physically and logically separated. The network design is based on the ISO/OSI seven level model. Ada has been chosen as the design language for the system. The DMS will be designed and built by multiple contractors (no prime software contractor). A software development environment (SDE) is being designed to support the integration effort of multiple contractors. The University of Houston-Clear Lake (UH-CL) provides technical management support for the joint NASA Johnson Space Center/UH-CL Ada Beta test site. The test site activities are supported by 18 local contractors. UH-CL manages a matrix of required research versus known contractor/university resources. Interested institutions will be invited to discuss research topics that will support development of the DMS.
