Short Cuts in Surveying

It is well known that practical surveyors on the whole avoid short cuts and approximations of all kinds. It is certainly wise to avoid a short cut if its nature is not understood. However, there are certain short cuts that can be safely applied, and these will be dealt with briefly in this paper.
