Eigenvalue Problems for Fredholm Integral Operators

Pedro O. Cubillos · IMA Journal of Numerical Analysis · 1987

The calculation of an approximation to the eigenelements of a Fredholm integral operator can be reduced, using the Nyström method, to the solution of an algebraic eigenvalue problem. To reduce the size of the system of equations to be solved, we propose two iterative variants. In the case of a self-adjoint operator, a special integration rule can be used to regularize the system of equations. In this case, orthogonality relations can be introduced for close or multiple eigenvalues.
