ELECTRONIC DISTANCE MEASUREMENT IN LAND SURVEYING

John W. Wright · Survey Review · 1966

The Symposium on Electromagnetic Distance Measurement arranged at Oxford last September under the auspices of the International Association for Geodesy, followed logically on the report of the Special Study Group No. 19 on E.D.M. [1] and brought together a number of scientists and surveyors expert in this field, and also assembled for their study a high proportion of the various instruments which have been developed employing both light and microwaves. It is expected that the Proceedings of the Symposium will be published in due course, and a number of the papers describing different instruments and techniques have already been published elsewhere. The Secretary of the Conference, Major M. R. Richards, R.E., also gave an account of it to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors which together with record of the discussion, has been published in their journal [2].
