Future Computers: Logic, Data Flow, ..., Control Flow?

Treleaven, Lima · Computer · 1984

The following potential architectures for future computers are examined: (1) fifth-generation computers, (2) supercomputers, (3) VLSI processor architectures, and (4) integrated communications and computers. The authors attempt to determine the ideal choice or combination of choices that will allow both computational control and system flexibility. They propose an evolutionary approach involving decentralized control flow. 28 references.
