Discriminating between a good and a poor essay

Essays by graduate students were scored by two, sometimes three university professors. The resulting scores permitted the essays to be sorted into three groups: the very best, the very poorest, and all the rest. By use of the General Inquirer program it was found that the best and poorest essays could be sorted accurately from a mixed batch of essays from all three groups.
