In this contribution we present a novel empirical mode decomposition based method to mitigate the noise on ultra wideband impulse radio (IR-UWB) signal. The scheme works by decomposing the noisy UWB pulse into a set of oscillatory modes known as intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) and adaptively removing the noise dominated sub-components depending on a instantaneous energy compression gain (IE- CG) metric, which is related to the energy concentration in the transform domain. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the proposed design scheme can decrease the influence of noise effectively. (3 pages)
