This series of articles in the FEBS Journal Special Issue on Signalling is based on the 6th Garvan Signalling Symposium, 2012. Articles focused on understanding the spatial and temporal contexts for signalling, the complexities of signalling networks in biology, and the translational opportunities afforded by delineating the role of signalling in human disease are featured. An accompanying series is based on an international symposium 'Ca(2+) Signalling and Transport in Health and Disease', Aarhus, 2012.
