On Rational Approximations to the Inverse Laplace Transform

John Edward Akin, J. Counts · SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics · 1969

A procedure is presented for obtaining rational approximations of the inverse Laplace transform. The procedure utilizes a series expansion, in powers of the transform parameter, used in conjunction with Viskovatov’s method for generating a continued fraction from a power series. This procedure provides a simple, direct formulation of the approximate inversion problem and is well suited for computer solution. An example is presented to illustrate the inversion procedure.
