HETEROGENEOUS COOPERATIVE KNOWLEDGE-BASE SYSTEMS

this paper, they show a novel approach to interoperation between software components (agents): that is, the declarative agent specifications are used to automatically coordinate their interoperation. It is their thesis that more effective software interoperation is made possible by agreeing to a shared declarative vocabulary, than by agreeing to procedural interface specification that do not address the semantics of the software component. The third paper is "Heterogeneous Cooperative Problem-Solving System Helios and its Cooperation Mechanism" by Akira Aiba, et al. The authors, who had been members of ICOT (Institute for New Generation Computer Technology), have been engaged in the Helios project for constructing heterogeneous distributed cooperative problem solvers. In this paper, they give an overview of Helios and propose a new cooperation/negotiation protocol based on transactions: that is, embedding cooperation messages into nested transactions. In their system. a negotiation strategy that suits the given negotiation protocol can be defined in each agent. The fourth paper is "COBRA: Integration of Heterogeneous Knowledge-Bases in Medical Domain" by Shusaku Tsumoto, et al. As in the title, the authors model medical knowledge-bases as a heterogeneous system. As medical data consist of many kinds of data: natural language data, sound data, numerical data, time-series data, and medical images, they point out that medical databases should be modeled as multidatabases. In this paper, they report a system called COBRA (ComputerOperated Birth-defect Recognition Aid), which supports diagnosis and information retrieval of congenital malformation diseases, and which also integrates natural language data, sound data, numerical data, and medical images into multidatabases on...
