This paper deals with the application of wavelet analysis in processing acoustic emission (AE) pulses generated by basic forms of partial electrical discharges (PDs) that can occur in insulation systems of power appliances. 7 he paper presents the multi-resolution analysis results of the AE pulses generated by the following spark gaps modelling the following PD forms; point-plane type discharges in oil, multi-point-plane type discharges in oil, multi-point-plane with a layer of pressboard, surface discharges in oil, gas bubble discharges in oil, discharges in indeterminate-potential particles moving in oil. For the wavelet analysis, a base symlet 8 wavelet was used. Moreover, for comparison purposes, the runs of the normalized autocorrelation functions (NACF) and the probability density functions (PDF) for particular details calculated for the PD forms under study are discussed.
