Performance comparison of COBOL vs. PASCAL: a comparative investigation

M. Adam Mahmood · Proceedings of the 17th conference on ACM Annual Computer Science Conference · 1989

Crysler (Communications of the ACM, 1978) has shown that the choice of a programming language significantly affects a programmer's productivity. This research helps towards making that choice by using a benchmark program originally written in COBOL, and later duplicated in Pascal to compare the two languages in terms of execution time and data transfer time to and from a Direct Access Storage Device.
