A method for automatic evaluation of timbre and microvariations of pipe organ sounds has been used for extensive investigations of the acoustic characteristics of valuable baroque pipe organs in the Veneto region, in Italy. In a rather short time, a complete acoustic description of two organs has been obtained, and investigations on other baroque organs are planned in order to confirm some hypotheses about the particular charm of the sounds of the baroque organ.
