Extending Java Pathfinder (JPF) with property classes for verification of Android permission extension framework

This paper proposes analysis technique for dynamic verification of APEX framework. APEX provides a list of permissions to a user to install software with some restrictions and user can also change these permissions at runtime. Model checking is a technique of formal verification to explore all possible paths with a large amount of inputs. Using this technique, we provide complete assurance about the APEX execution. We used a popular model checking tool Java Pathfinder (JPF), to verify APEX framework. The important aspect of this study is that we have identified a race condition in APEX using this tool.
