For robust continuous tracking across multiple views for the wide surveillance environment it is helpful to know the geometric relationship or a hand-off function in addition to photometric relationship between views. Previous works for camera hand-off were mainly focused on the planar ground with homography computation or are strongly coupled with camera calibration and 3D scene recovery. In this paper, we propose a new method for camera hand-off without camera calibration for the general scene containing non-planarground.It is required to establish correspondences between views for camera hand-off. The concept of occurrence and co-ccurrence is introduced to solve the problem. We show a hand-off function can be constructed by computing the ratio of co-occurrence to occurrence for all pairs of points in two views. In addition,we analyze the cases of hand-off ambiguity and failure. Our approach to camera hand-off does not require camera calibration or 3D scene recovery. It can be applied to the scene with non-planar ground.Further-more, all operations from construction of the hand-off function to hand-off of objects across views can be performed in a full automatic manner.Experimental results for image sequences of a real outdoor scene are shown.
