Link Level Modeling For High Speed Wireless Communication System Simulations

Yi Zhang, Jian Gu, Dacheng Yang · 2006

The interface between link and system level simulations is important for accurate evaluation of wireless communication systems. Two popular methods, modified actual value interface (AVI) and quasi-static method (QSM) cannot accurately model the Es/Ntvariation brought by fading channel and link adaptation. Es/Ntvariation brings link performance loss and it is important to model its effect to system performance. A new method is proposed to characterize Es/Ntvariation with standard deviation of equivalent Es/Ntin this paper. Subslot is also used as the minimal unit of Es/Ntcalculation to achieve more accurate modeling for high velocity. Link level results show the importance of modeling Es/Ntvariation, for example, link performance loss can be as high as 2.5 dB when standard deviation of equivalent per-subslot Es/Ntis 5 dB. Furthermore, Simulation results verify that the proposed method can accurately model Es/Ntvariation for system level simulations
