Summer courses in computing for the gifted and talented: How much can be accomplished in two weeks?

When one considers summer sessions for gifted students, it is immediately apparent that computer courses are extremely popular. The objectives of such classes vary tremendously from literacy and appreciation to computer aided skill building to learning to program. The purpose of this paper is to describe a two week summer course which successfully develops mathematical problem solving, promotes understanding of advanced mathematical concepts, and allows students to learn a gret deal of programming.
