Multifunction device security awareness

This document will discuss the vulnerabilities and threats associated with modern copier/print/fax/e-mail devices commonly known as "document centers." This project will increase awareness of the potential loss of an organization's data. More specifically, this discussion will include published vulnerabilities (regarding certain models), previous discussion and the author's perspective regarding the potential threat. Lastly, this paper will demonstrate the technical anatomy of two different attack vectors against an organization's document center. Research was conducted within a small business office environment, outside operational hours under special permission and agreement, which by necessity limited the scope to single-device experimentation.
