Psychological Factors and the Relationship between Perceptual Style and Pain Tolerance
Rolf H. Adler, F. Lomazzi · Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics · 2010
Among many other factors, an individual’s perceptual style is said to contribute to his Pain Tolerance (1, 2). Our study aimed at confirming the positive correlation (2) between Perceptual Style and Pain Tolerance, Perception being assessed by means of measuring a subject’s Field-Orientation with the Embedded Figures Test (3) and Pain being inducted by the Submaximum Effort Tourniquet Technique (4), a modified ischaemic muscle pain test. The expected positive correlation between Field-Orientation and Pain Tolerance was designated Hypothesis A.
