The Effect of Reading Variation and Punctuation Conditions upon Reading Comprehension
Wendell W. Weaver, C. Curtis Holmes, Richard J. Reynolds · Journal of Reading Behavior · 1970
This is a study of the effect upon reading comprehension of reading variation (silent reading, reporting the last word of each sentence read aloud, and reading aloud) and punctuation condition (all of the reading passage punctuated, or none of the reading passage punctuated). Reading comprehension was measured by a) a noun cloze test; b) the sum of individual test item latencies; c) the total required to read the stimulus passage; and d) the total time required to take the oral test.
