From Logical to Physical Software Architectures
Andreas M. Zendler, Heinz Schwärtzel · IETE Technical Review · 1998
Logical and physical software architectures use abstractions to describe application components, interactions among the components, and the patterns that guide the composition of components into applications. In addition to specifying the structure and topology of the system, the logical and physical architectures show the intended correspondence between the requirements of an application and elements of the constructed application. We describe mappings from a generic logical six layer architecture to physical three tiered architectures. For this, we introduce the basic terms of layered architectures, describe an architecture driven approach to distribute applications, and outline middleware techniques for distributed applications.
