T HERadio Research Section (Rundfunkversuchsstelle) of the Berlin Academy of Music may justly claim to be unique. Many such research laboratories exist, but they are almost without exception organised and run from the engineering point of view, either by Universities and the like or by commercial interests. Here, on the other hand, a musical organisation has established a radio department, with the result that the orientation is entirely different, and, at any rate from the musician's point of view, far more interesting.
