Notation in the Context of Quintet.net Projects

Georg Hajdu, Kai Niggemann, Ádám Siska, Andrea Szigetvári · Contemporary Music Review · 2010

This article presents aspects of notation in projects employing the Quintet.net networked performance environment. As Quintet.net—to our knowledge, the first networked music environment utilizing real-time notation—was conceived in 1999, we will be reviewing ten years of practice in a number of scenarios. After the historical overview, we shall give a description of the current implementation of music notation in separate layers dedicated to specific tasks such as standard notation, graphic notation, performance notation and score annotation. The article then proceeds to the analysis of individual pieces composed by members of the European Bridges Ensemble and concludes with an outlook on future perspectives.
