Videorecording and high-definition television systems for the late 1980s: A review

Videorecording systems have improved dramatically in terms of compactness of equipment, smaller formats and electronic means of maintaining the quality of the image. Videodisc technology, with its prodigious recording capacity, has emerged as a medium for archival storage. High-definition television offers new picture-aspect ratios with quality similar to film and satellite, fibre optic and land-line systems will permit teleconferencing.
