Message Probability and Message Reception

Are words which occur more frequently “easier to hear” than words that occur less frequently? The conventional intelligibility analysis is biased to give an affirmative answer to this question. It is shown that unbiased analyses, however, also give an affirmative answer for words derived from small, known message sets differing in relative frequency of occurrence.
