Identification of Speech Sounds from Analytical Records

E. C. Wente · The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America · 1954

With the apparatus described in paper number Q4, records were made of most of the principal speech sounds in different phonetic environments as spoken by each of four persons. In this paper the discussion will center around the identification from these records of the vowels and some of the consonants. Particular difficulties in the interpretation of certain classes of sounds will be pointed out.
