Techniques for image retrieval

It is increasingly being recognized that the successful management of large collections of image data requires the use of storage and retrieval techniques specifically developed for images. This article reviews both established and novel techniques for image retrieval, with particular emphasis on the rapidly-developing field of automatic content-based retrieval . It aims to explain how such techniques operate, their current capabilities and limitations, and how they might develop in the future
