MACS: Maintenance assistance capability for software
Mari Georges · Journal of Software Maintenance Research and Practice · 1992
Abstract MACS1 has for its objective the definition and implementation of a software maintenance assistance system. A basic premise is that all maintenance activities require understanding of the application under maintenance, and hence the maintainer could profit by expression of the application's design (the facts) and the rationale behind it (the reasons). Furthermore, MACS proposes to aid the maintainer in approaching the problem at hand, in formulating and applying a strategy, and in fully exploiting the possibilities of the MACS tools themselves. Using knowledge representation and expert system techniques, the MACS project is developing a tool‐set that will provide the means to analyse existing systems and to capture information about new applications, for maintenance purposes.
