The Sonic Event, East and West

Any single sonic event that is carefully observed reveals that it is in turn comprised of three separate events, each occupying a part of the overall duration. There is a time during which the event is coming into existence, a time during which it maintains itself, and a time during which it decays back into nothing. These different aspects are readily discernable in today's electronic music, but were also apparent to people of ancient cultures.
