We are interested in evaluating the effects of software tools and methods on cost and errors over the life-cycle of a software project. The adopted approach is to perform controlled experiments. The experiments are designed to be conducted for selected variables using standard experimental design strategies. We discuss the use of the fractional factorial approach to a specific design for a selected experiment. The Appendix contains the list of variables which were considered in the design of this experiment.
