The model however has its limitations, since it ignores some characteristics of semistructured data, like the fact that edges in the graph can be traversed only forwards, or that sometimes the order of the attributes matters. The purpose of paper is to give an overview of the research on semistructured data and briefly illustrate some of its theoretical and formal aspects. We describe the semistructured data model in Sec. 2 and illustrate a few query languages in Sec. 3. We discuss schema formalisms for semistructured data in Sec. 4 and conclude in Sec. 5. 2 Data Model
