Employment Of Pattern Matching In Multiple Target Tracking
W. Keith Maples · Proceedings of SPIE, the International Society for Optical Engineering/Proceedings of SPIE · 1989
Pattern matching is a well-known technique for associating successive measurements of many, closely spaced objects where there is small relative motion of the objects between measurements. This paper examines the effectiveness of two-frame pattern matching techniques, including the Munkres algorithm and a "subgroup matcher". Performance and limitations of these algorithms in the presence of spurious signals and non-random internal motions is studied. The subgroup matcher is shown to be much more robust to measurement anomalies.
