Fast response temperature sensor for use in liquid sodium

J D McCann · Journal of Physics E Scientific Instruments · 1976

Describes the requirement for, and the subsequent design, construction and performance of an instrument to resolve rapid but small amplitude fluctuations in temperature of a stream of liquid sodium. The developed form of the instrument has a response time of 12 ms and is capable of detecting +or-0.5 degrees C variations in temperature up to 700 degrees C. Prototype instruments are described which have a response time less than 4 ms, an increased maximum operating temperature of 900 degrees C, and which enable simultaneous flow and temperature measurements.
