ON NORMAL, NON-RECTANGULAR PRODUCTS

WE prove the following theorem which gives simple answers to Pasynkov's and Yajima's questions concerning the existence of normal, nonrectangular products: If a normal space X is not paracompact, then there is a σ-locally compact, paracompact space Y such that X × Y is normal but not rectangular.
