A real-time smartphone- and smartshoe-based fall prevention system

Akm Jahangir Alam Majumder · 2014

Accidental falls among elderly people can have massive social and economic impacts and dramatic health consequences. In the year 2025 the elderly are projected to account for 15% of the total population. For people 70--75 years old, the estimated incidence of falls is over 30% per year [1]. Current research has been focused on fall detection systems, which do not adequately provide safety for elderly individuals prone to falls. The area of fall prevention is still understudied.
