New metric for evaluating the accuracy of marching isosurfacing algorithms
Cuilan Wang, Timothy S. Newman · 2014
A new measure of the accuracy of an isosurface produced by marching isosurfacing algorithms (e.g., Marching Cubes) is described. This metric has a low computational cost yet well-approximates a computationally-expensive, common assessment of produced isosurface accuracy (i.e., the spatial discrepancy between the produced isosurface and the isosurface of trilinear interpolation). Experiments of the method's quality and computational performance are also exhibited, including comparisons against a competing approximation metric previously described.
