Distributed software personnel when, how and why?

It is obvious that as computer technology moves more and more towards distributed processing - a centralized EDP support structure will not be effective. The future of computer processing will utilize distributed microcomputing technology. As depicted in Figures 1, 2, and 3, the future computer processing environments will have microcomputers connected to minicomputers and minis connected to mainframes. Complete computer networking, microcomputers on every executive's desk, relational data structures and office automation will dominate the business environment.
