Exact Nearest-Neighbor Statistics for Two-Dimensional Rectangular Lattices

Expressions are developed which describe exactly the ensemble average of the number of nearest, next-nearest, and third-nearest-neighbor pairs per particle, when indistinguishable particles are arranged on a two-dimensional rectangular lattice.
