Some notes on converting programs from mainframes to the IBM-PC using MS-FORTRAN 3.30 — there is good news and bad news
Ronald M. Sawey · ACM SIGSMALL/PC Notes · 1985
The good news is that the new linker that comes with the latest version of MS-FORTRAN can given significantly smaller executable files than the previous linkers. The bad news is that if you have encountered stack overflows with earlier versions of MS-FORTRAN, you can expect a lot more of them with this latest version. The bottom line is, if you buy the latest version of MS-FORTRAN (3.30 compiler and 3.02 linker) make certain that you have "downgrade rights" to the earlier version (3.20 compiler and 2.14 linker).
