PURPOSE: Session RPE (Sess RPE) is denned as the post-exercise rating of global exertion experienced during an entire exercise session. The purpose of this study was to validate Sess RPE during a load incremented cycle ergometer estimation protocol in young adult females. METHODS: Nineteen recreationally active females ( RPE at 40, 60 & 80% VO2 peak 1.37, 3.53 & 6.21 respectively.TableCONCLUSIONS: In recreationally active young women, Sess RPE responses to cycle ergometry are not reflective of the (1) mean global perceptions for the entire session (2) any of the relative aerobic metabolic rates evaluated presently. Alternative perceptual and physiological criteria should be identified to validate the Sess RPE during load incremented cycle exercise. Future research should also address the influence of fitness, exercise mode and time of Sess RPE measurement.
