Systems of equations versus extended reference sets in dimensional analysis

Dimensional analysis yields the most informative results when the largest possible number of independent reference dimensions is used. This paper gives examples to illustrate that separately analyzing various ‘‘component equations’’ that enter the problem is equivalent to the standard method of using ‘‘extended’’ reference sets. Using the component equations method may also be more convenient since the origin of the additional information is usually more transparent.
