A hardware structure for the realization of recursive digital filters

M.A. Sid-Ahmed · International Journal of Electronics · 1988

A hardware realization for a second-order recursive digital filter is presented. The structure can be directly programmed with the filter coefficients, and can therefore be useful in adaptive filtering. The hardware employs two's-complement fixed-point arithmetic, and is a mixture of serial and parallel processing. The structure has a high throughput rate, and its dynamic range can be increased to any desired precision without drastically increasing the complexity of the hardware or reducing its maximum speed of operation. The basic hardware structure and various modification on the structure to increase the precision and/or decrease its complexity are presented.
