In telemedicine application, it is essential to reduce both storage and transmission bandwidth requirements needed for archival and communication. In order to achieve this 3D scalable compression method for medical images with optimal volume of interest for wireless transmission is presented. This method employs the 3D integer wavelet transform and a 3D-EBCOT with 3-D contexts to produce a scalable layered bit-stream. Here the proposed 3D contour method is applied to the reconstructed medical image slices with volume of interest (VOI). Simulation results show an efficient improvement in the 3D object obtained from the reconstructed 3D images.
