Design of f.i.r. direct-form digital filters with two quantisation steps

The direct-form realisation of f.i.r. linear-phase digital filters is investigated when the coefficients are separated in two groups with different quantisation steps. It is shown in an example that considerable improvement in coefficient word length can be achieved by this technique.
