An Efficient Clique Cloak Algorithm for Defending Location-Dependent Attacks in Location Based Services

P. Shanthi, Sadhu Ramakrishnan Balasundaram · 2014

Location based Services (LBS) have been gaining increasing popularity in recent years. Location acts as the key parameter in LBS thereby numerous applications are possible helping the society to a greater level. Meanwhile, the location is a sensitive attribute and it may be accessed by the hackers to get the details of other attributes related to the context. Hence, protecting the location context of the user is a major issue in LBS. Work on protecting the location of the users in mobile applications including mechanisms involving cloaking algorithms have been focused by several researchers. Most of the cloaking algorithms don't consider the out-of time query constraint while protecting the location. In this regard, a new clique based cloaking algorithm to take care of out-of-time queries called SelectiveRemoveCliqueCloak (SRCliqueCloak) has been proposed in this paper. The effectiveness of the proposed SRCliqueCloak is validated by experiments and the results show that the success rates of the cloaked region for defending against location-dependent attacks are higher.
