Adaptation in Observers During Television Quality-Grading Tests II. Progress of Adaptation During an Experiment

J.W. Allnatt, J.M. Corbett · Ergonomics · 1972

The phenomenon of adaptation in subjective quality-grading tests has been investigated using impaired television pictures, and the magnitude of tho effect, as a function of the ' conditioning situation ', was considered in Part I )Allnatt and Corbett 1972). It has been found possible to trace the course of adaptation as an experiment progresses. The rate of development is more rapid for pictures impaired by random noise than for thoso impaired by long-delayed echo. The distribution of opinion scores, as related to a given mean score, was found to be relatively unaffected by adaptation.
